Another whopper. This time I got to experience it. Don's not feeling well so he headed home. The doc came in early this morning to begin the cortical stimulation. There are specific areas of the brain that they focus on and send a small electrical current to, to see what his physical response is, if any. They had accomplished quite a bit and were nearing the end when they went into an area, sent the charge and asked him to read a short paragraph. He got about 3 words into it and went into a big seizure. I thank God that those aren't his typical seizures! I know there are people out there who have those kind every single day, many times a day. God bless them all! He has recovered nicely though and he's snoozing right now.
The doc did say that they still have a little bit more of the grids to test, or map, but that they won't go back into that other area again until he's back on higher medication to prevent another nasty seizure. She also said that as it stands now, Friday is the target date for the second surgery. We are hoping that turns out to be the case! Aaron has had enough of this and just wants to get out of here. Can't say that I blame him!
So now we just have to wait for the mapping to be done, and he also needs to have another seizure, one that he has spontaneously, not one that's induced. Aaron's not too happy about that, but he understands that the more data the doctors have, the better the outcome will be for him! Please just continue to pray for peace and strength. I don't think Don is going to get terribly sick -- we've been passing it around and it doesn't seem like a very strong bug. Also pray for Aaron that he will be at peace and not be too impatient!
